Koolcube began in the beverage industry — carbonation and nitrogenation systems, where a couple of degrees and a couple of millilitres change how a drink tastes.
Working on those systems makes you fussy about two things: temperature and purity. You learn how much of a drink's character sits in the temperature it is served at, and how quickly that character disappears when something dilutes it.
Then came the part that was harder to ignore. Working alongside researchers at the University of Queensland, we kept running into the same subject: what is actually in water, and by extension, what is actually in ice. Microplastics. Pollutants. Whatever was in the tray before. Ice is the one ingredient nobody inspects, and it goes into almost every cold drink anyone pours.
So we made the opposite of ice
A cube of 304 food-grade stainless steel, sealed, with an ultra-smooth electropolished finish. It has no pores, so nothing collects in it and nothing leaches out of it. It chills a drink on contact and holds that temperature for about half an hour. And when it is done, it goes in the dishwasher and then back in the freezer.
It also stops the other quiet waste: buying ice, over and over, in a plastic bag, for a product that is 90% water and gone the same evening.
How we work
- We stock what we would use. Alongside our own cubes we carry granite and soapstone chillers, because some people genuinely prefer a gentler chill, and we would rather tell you that than pretend steel is the only answer.
- We pack and post from Australia. Orders leave in 1–3 business days, tracked and insured. Nothing is drop-shipped from a warehouse we have never seen.
- We answer our own email. Write tohello@koolcube.au and a person replies.
